Suppose that y is a linear function of x. a. Complete the table of values below. (2) x 0 3 6 ? y 4 10 ? 24 b. Write a linear equation expressing y in terms of x. y = ______________________ (3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, can you make the question clear please? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the general from of linear function is : y=mx + b m is the slope, b is a constant then plug the values of x from the table into the function. x=0, y=4 -> 4=m(0) +b -> b=4 so now we know the value of b the function will be -> y=mx + 4 then plug another value of x and y x=3, y=10 -> 10=3m+4 -> 3m=6 ->m=2 finally we have the complete linear equation : y=2x+4 so when you plug x=6, you'll get y=12+4=16 and when y=24-> 24=2x+6 -> 2x=18 -> x=9

@ sstarica thats what the question looked like onlin haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ dindtac how did you get b= 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by plugging x=0 and y=4 from the table

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug that values of x and y into y=mx + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but then what about m?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh m times o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug another values of x and y from the table x=3 , y=10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes when you plug x=0 , it will be m times 0 and will left only b in the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so two problems down from this one we are working on, i put up one, could you look at it and help maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i'll help if i can
