Alice takes a picture of the Queen during their trip to wonderland. The Queen is 168cm tall and is 2.1 meters away from the camera lens. The film is 3cm from the lens. How tall is the Queen's image on the film to the nearest tenth of a centimeter?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if the lens is assumed to just flip and not distort the picture this is similar triangles

OpenStudy (amistre64):

210 cm = 2.1 m right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first you need to convert the meters into centimeters i think that would be easier. so that would be 210 meter. i will draw a picture to help with the rest.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3 x ---- = --- 210 168

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x = 84/35

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2.4 cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i wanna see how good of an artist reja is :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you take 168 by 210 ---- ---- x 3 you simply cross multiply and divide so it will be 210x by 504. you then divide 210 to get "x" alone which will come out to be 2.4 2.4 will be what x equals

OpenStudy (amistre64):

pretty good.....pretty good :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it took so long.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it took as long as it took :)
