write the number without exponents. 4.481 x 10^5
All you do here is move the decimal over the correct amount of places. Take it as if you were multiplying 4.481 by 10 five times.
so it would be 4,481 x 10^5
move the decimal point to the right 5 places. the answer is 448,100
ok thanks.
how about \[3.25 x 10-^4\]
move the decimal to the left 4 places. the answer is .000325
ok. would you mind explaining me when you know when yo move the decimal to the left and right?
Negative exponents like -4 move the decimal to the left, while positive exponents like 5 move it to the right.
ok thank you.
ok. i have one more question. it says... Perform the indicated operations. Write the answer without exponents \[25*10^1/5*10^3\] how would this turn out?
There is a specific order in which you go about to perform operations. A typical was of remembering it the acronym PEMDAS. Which stands for parenthesis, exponents, multiply, divide, add, subtract. You perform operations in this order. So you would look for parenthesis and do the operation in them first, then move on to any exponents and so on.
so it would come out to this... 25*100/5*100 then the next step would be 2500/500 then after that the final answer would be 5 if i am correct
ops i meant 25*100/ 5*1000 and then 2500/5000 and the final answer would be 0.5
Close. 10^1 is only 10, not 100.
ooh yeah. sorry
