Is 18/25 equal too either 3/4, 15/20 or 75/100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can compare fractions by simplifying them or by decimals. So if you reduce 18/25 what do you get?

OpenStudy (lauren):

i dont kmow that is why i am here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. Well you can't reduce 18/25. If you had something like 4/10 you can reduce it by dividing both the numerator and denominator by a number. So if you divide both 4 and 10 by 2, you see that 4/10 reduces to 2/5.

OpenStudy (lauren):

ok then what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So in your problem, you want to compare 18/25 to the other values of 3/4, 15/20, and 75/100. If any of those 3 values can reduce to 18/25 then the answer is yes, otherwise it's no.

OpenStudy (lauren):

so how do i do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You reduce them by division. So take 75/100. A common factor or number that divides into both the top and the bottom is 25. If you divide 75 by 25 you get 3. 100 divided by 25 you get 4 so 75/100 reduces to 3/4. Which is the same as the first value. 3/4 is not the same as 18/25 so they are not equal. All you have to do is reduce 15/20 and see if it is equal to 18/25.
