8x+13x=126

What grade are you in, if you don't mind my asking?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in college

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont understand math at all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am sure people here can help, but by just getting answer to your questions, I don't think you are helping yourself. Do you understand equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am clueless

Well, if you consider that x is an unknown number, and that the x used with 8x (which is 8 multiplied by x) is the same as the x used with the 13x (which is x mulitiplied by 13) you can add the 13x and the 8x together. For example, if x was 4, you would have 8(4) + 13(4) (ignoring the second half of the equation here). If you add the 8 and the 13, you get 21. So 8(4) + 13(4) is the same as 21(4). So, it makes sense that 8x + 13x will be the same as 21x. Then for your equation, you get 21x = 126. 21x is "21 multiplied by x", so to find what x equals, you divide both sides by 21 (to get rid of the 21 on the left, and have only x=). Then you get x = 126/21 I'm sure you can do the last part, but you should definitely get tutoring.

You may want to start with basic algebra books. Any math book should help you.

yes i was right

Just to make it easier for us to help you, try posting what you did to solve the problem. Then we can fill in the gaps and that would help you better than us just giving you the answers.

If you had to check that you were right, I don't think you're understanding your classwork well enough. Ask the teacher to go over the basics of equations with you, most teachers would.

ok
