1. A square poster has sides measuring 2 feet less than the sides of a square sign. If the difference between areas is 16 square feet find the lengths of sides of the poster and the sign.
2. The dimensions of a rectangle are such that its length is 3 inches more than the width. If the length were doubled and the width decreased by 1 the area would be increased by 50 square inches. What is the length and width of the rectangle?
