A 200 lb weight hangs from a string as shown in the figure. Find the tensions T1 and T2 in the string. (Round your answers to one decimal place.) Angle of Tsub1 is 50 deg Angle of Tsub2 is 30 deg http://bit.ly/hRQwdA

Just somewhat lost on where to even start.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start by writing the tensions in vertical and horizontal components so that you will have 2 equations to solve simultaneously. remember that the weight is horizontal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry I meant vertical

So I would have T1 as <cos(50),sin(50)> and T2 as <cos(30),sin(30)>? Or do I have to subtract 50 from 180 for T1? Thanks for your help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you use 90 degrees there is no need to use 180

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So T1 = <153.2,128.6> and \[T_2 = <100,100\sqrt3>\] Can I just put that into ai+bj format?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as long as you show that you have T1 and T2 answers
