the base of a rectangle increases by 20% and the altitude is increased by 30% what percentage is the area increased? I don't know how to set this up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the formula for area of a rectangle is base * height = Area If something is increased by 20% it's the same as multiplying it by 1.2; 30% = 1.3 SO 1.2*BASE * 1.3*HEIGHT = X*Area; solve for X.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much, it doesn't give me the base numbers but when you mutitply those numbers together it is 1.56 so I am guessing it increases by 56%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. you know that Base*height = Area, so you can just cancel those out of the last formula I gave.
