Sasha is planning to create a garden with area of 30m square. she could use a rectangular or circular design. Sasha decides to use a design that requires the least edging material. Which design should she use? How much edging with it require?

OpenStudy (radar):

Go with the circular. The edging for the circular is the circumference of the circle that has an area 30 m square. \[A=pir ^{2}\] \[r=\sqrt{30/\pi}\]Circumference =2r(pi)=19.416 meters. The perimeter of a square would be 4 times the sides. Each side would be\[s ^{2}=30\] \[s=\sqrt{30}=5.4772\]Perimeter is 4 times this or 21.9089 meters requiring more edging than the circle.
