a balloon holds 4.2 cubic feet of air. The balloon is blown up further to hold 5.6 cubic feet of air. What is the volume of air inside the balloon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cubic feet is a unit of volume. The question asks what is the volume of air inside the balloon, but doesn't give a time interval...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh oops what is thepercent of change for the volume of air inside the balloon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok. Well how would you find the change of volume in the balloon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that why i need help? im in 6th grade and i dont know how to do this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its a multiple choice problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok well the balloon has 4.2 cubic feet of air to begin with then it goes to 5.6 cubic feet of air. The change is the difference between those two numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh well the multiple choice is A. 25% B. 33.3% C. 75% D. 80% and i got 33.3% i just dont know how i would work the problem out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok 33.3% is correct. The change is 5.6-4.2=1.4 so you want to compare the change with the starting amount of air which is 4.2. So you get 4.2 divided by 1.4 to find the percentage of change in cubic feet which is 33.3%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks this was very helpful but which one goes into the house when your dividing 1.4 or 4.2? ;]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.2 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem.
