if the measure of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is 15cm if the base of the triangle measures 9cm. what is te area in square centimeters of the triangle??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im just going to give this to you, and hope that you try to understand it 4 square centimeters please explain it and ill try to hellp you understand...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the area???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, its an area... because an area is two dimensional... do you know what that means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i just get how 4 is the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what don tyou get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how the area is 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh im sorry, the area isn't 4 square cm, thats the length of the side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh whats the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would use the area for a triangle... which woud be base times height/2 so once you have the base height and hypotenuse, you can work it out right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for base i have 9 h i have 13 and hypotanuse i have15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, how did you get that? and ill tell you where you went wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did a2 +b2 = c2 and inputed numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which numbers where?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i was finding a so b was 9 squared and c was 15 squared

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, that should have worked, what did you do after you had the numbers in (how did you solve it)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my anwer for a was 13.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by just following it through like nine squared is 81 and fifteen squared is 225

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then subtrected 81 from both sides to leave a by its self which was 174 the square root of tht is 13.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so look at 225-81 again (its not 174)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok for area i got 54

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay, but you should say 54 square centimeters... i got 54 square centimeters too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks
