What is the importance of dreams in "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck? The key-points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is peopled with characters who want something different or something more than they have. For most of the characters the desire to have more is manifested by a general discontent, which they cannot articulate, and the greedy attempt to get more with no purpose behind the acquisition. However, Steinbeck allows three characters in his novel to move beyond general discontent and/or greed and provides through them a commentary on dreams in America
