Hi, I recently took an interest in php and i am currently reading a book on this subject but im having some trouble retaining some of the information and i was wondering if any of you guys would give me some tips on helping me learn it faster and if you recommend a book that is suitable for beginners
best way to learning is work on some project for example try to create a site for yourself in different PHP books you may to see projects, witch creating while you read this book sorry for my ugly English
btw, if you are still inexperianced in this, do not try to take up a complicated project because you won't be able to finish it and might get demotivated. Start small.
I find it's good to take a break from it and do something different, but useful in the long run - I like to play around with SketchUp or perhaps some CSS tricks, then go back to learning new programming concepts after I get tired of trying make stuff look cool. Once you've got the basics of programming down, which wont take long, you'll nearly always be learning by doing some kind of project where you're mainly using and reinforcing your existing skills, but finding that you also need to understand a, b and c to get the project finished (and d, e, f and some other stuff. And some crap about Javascript).
Check out the Headfirst series. It's definitely a different kind of programming book. It's quirky and attempts to retain things in your memory with repetition, images, and some scenarios. You can also download all their example code on their site. I read Headfirst Javascript front to back not too long ago and I retained almost everything. It was a really nice read. The only downside to these book is that they don't cover every nuance so it's not really fit for reference. Check it out. http://headfirstlabs.com/books/hfphp/
