A road has a 16.7% grade. What is its slope? Why might we want to warn drivers of a grade like this?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

divide by 100 to get the fraction: slope = 167/1000

myininaya (myininaya):

what is a grade? never heard of grade for a road

OpenStudy (amistre64):

put up signs that say 'school crossing', theyll sure to speed thru it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

slope as percent = grade

myininaya (myininaya):

you're so smart

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol.... i just read it on another post ;)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

100% grade equals a vertical line 0% grade equals beachfront property

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is the slope 1.67

OpenStudy (amistre64):

16.7% as a decimal is .167 slope is a fraction....top/bottom usually. but if you wanna keep it as a decimal.... .167 is the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the correct answer could also be 167/100

OpenStudy (amistre64):

167/1000 seems more approriate to me, unless I am missing something obvious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

167
