Annual profit in thousands of dollars is given by the function, P(x) = , where x is the number of items sold in thousands, x > 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the function? and what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi, this is how the question was worded and given to me. I'm not sure of the function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He wants us to describe the meaning of the number "1" in the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the problem doesn't even ask a question. it simple states something. What are you supposed to find out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it means that the company starts making profit if they make more than 1000 units.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there anything else you can show for that like in number form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It means P(x) exists for x>1. x is expressed in thousands. which means, they make profit only if they make at least 1000 units. The problem states describe the meaning of 1. I just did.

Thanks, appreciate your help!
