Compund Inequality: 4x-5/6or equal to 9 I am not even sure where to begin. Need step-by-step directions, please. Thank you. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is the same as the other one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inequality_%28mathematics%29

OpenStudy (anonymous):

MsCAdams84, is it 4x-(5/6)? or (4x-5)/6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x-5/6 <=-5 4x<=-5+5/6 x<=-25/24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

conclude 4x-5/6<or equal to -5 OR 4x-5/6>or equal to 9 to 4x-5/6≤-5 or 4x-5/6≥9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4x-5)/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not the other. I'm checking the wikipedia site. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then (4x-5)/6≤-5 or (4x-5)/6≥9 , 4x-5≤-30 or 4x-5≥54, 4x≤-25 or 4x≥59, x≤-25/4 or x≥59/4. altogether it's x∈(-∞, -25/4] ∪ [59/4, +∞)

Thank you. What I didn't understand was what to do with the 6. As usual, it's something simple. LOL :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should switch the 6 in the left to the right side. or , in other words, multiply the left and right simultaneously with 6
