can somebody explain what the following sentence means

"FFT(X,N) is the N-point FFT, padded with zeros if X has less than N points ..."

What I want to know what padded with zeros means? English is not my native language.

I know the mathematics behind it, however I need to know what "padded with zero means" I suppose it means surrounded with zeros.

yes, it means you add zeros to the end of your sequence.
