18-42 = -5x/12
-2448 = -5x

First do the operations to the fractions:

3+(x/6)=7-(x/4)
(18/6)+(x/6)=(28/4)-(x/4)
(18+x)/6=(28-x)/4

Then you pass the denominators to the other side:

(18+x)*4=(28-x)*6
18*4+x*4=28*6-x*6
72+4x=168-6x
4x+6x=168-72
10x=96
x=48/5 or 9.6
