basically if he went 7 miles south, and 4 miles west, picture those as sides of a right angles triangle...
if thats the case then your objective is to find the side other side of the triangle which can be found by adding 7^2 and 4^2 and then taking the square root.

so u get 49+16 which equals 65, and the square root of 65 rounded to 1 decimal spot is 8.1
