A cord of firewood is 128 cubic feet. Margaretta has three storage boxes for firewood that each measure 2 feet by 3 feet by 4 feet. Does she have enough space to order a full cord of firewood? A half cord? A quarter cord? Explain.
A storage box is 2ft x 3ft x 4ft = 24 ft^3. She has 3 of them, so she has 3 x 24 ft^3 = 72 ft^3. So she doesn't have enough room for a full cord. A half cord is 128/2 = 64 ft^3, so she has enough room for a half cord. Also enough room for a quarter cord, obviously.
thank you but i have another question
Hit me with it. :)
i need the voulme of this
The volume of one storage box is 24 cubic feet. Her total storage capacity is 3 of those, which is 72 cubic feet. Since a full cord is 128 cubic feet, she can't fit it all. A half cord is 64 cubic feet, so she has enough room. A quarter cord is 32 cubic feet. Hope that helps, I'm going to pass out. :)
