how do you simplify 3^4+2X3^4
That X is a times sign?
yes
All right, just making sure. Later on you'll stop using x for times.
yes i know, but there is no dot sign on a keyboard
Well, we have to use order of operations here.
Ah, normally you just use an asterisk. *
well whatever
3^4+2X3^4 We do the exponents first. 3*3*3*3+2*3*3*3*3 9*9+2*9*9 81+2*81 3*81 243
yes. i get that. how do you convert that to exponential form then?
We started out in exponential form.
yes. the answer i need has to be in exponential form it is a test question
We started out in exponential form.
ok. so how do you get back to it?? in a simplified version????!!
Well, you wouldn't just start out with a number like 243. They would give you something like 3*3*3*3+2*3*3*3*3 and you would answer 3^4 + 2 * 3^4
the simplified answer is 3^5
Of course, if they gave you 81 you could say 9^2
but that is not the same.. that original problem is equal to 243 so the simplified version which is 3^5 must equal 243
Well, to be truthful I'm not sure how you ended up with 3^5. It works, but I don't know why. Perhaps you could ask someone else? I though by simplify you meant find the simplest form, which is 243.
nope thanks bye
