How do I find the range of a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have found that the easiest way to find the rang of a function is by graphing. Can you tell me your example?

or by seeing what values of the x-axis (or more axis') are insertable and will offer a solution, and thereby determining the range, e.g. f(x)=x has a range of infinity it is defined for all values of x

You can really only guess the range and then prove it. Taking derivatives and graphing will give you some indication, but even some simple functions have weird graphs. like 1/sin(x)
