how do you add fractions with unlike denominators?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take the l.c.m.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You find a common denominator that is a multiple of the 'unlike' denominators. Then you convert each fraction to use that denominator.

This video explains it pretty well. If you have further questions feel free to ask. http://www.khanacademy.org/video/adding-fractions-with-unlike-denominators?playlist=Developmental%20Math

if you have an example I would be willing to help you work through it
