OpenStudy (raeganj):

the price for this year's season tickets to a city hockey team's games was reduced by 15% from last years ticket price,x. As a result there was a 22% increase in the number f season tickets sold this year. if a total of 4000 season tickets were sold last year and each season ticket is equally priced, which expression could be used to determine the total sales from this year's season tickets? A.4000(1+0.22)(1+0.15)x B.4000(1+0.22)(1-0.15)x C.4000(1-0.22)(1-0.15)x D.4000(1-0.22)(1+0.15)x

B. 15% decrease would be (1 - 0.15) 22% increase would be (1 + .22)

ok so you have tick sold last year = f and last year price tickets = x first lets find out how many tickets were sold this year. It has to be more than last year Since last year sold 4000 and this year they sold 22% or 0.22 more we can say (4000* 0.22) + 4000 we can factor out 4000 [1 * 0.22) + 1 ] * 4000 [(0.22) + 1 ] * 4000 or 4000( 1 + 0.22)

and we can cancel C and D and by what we did can see that since the sale prices lower we can cancel out A and the answer is B
