What is the GCF of 40& 4 and 4&5 The last one! :) HELP!

Ok. So when you are trying to find the GCF of something you put the 2 numbers together: 40: 2, 4.... 4:2, 4..... and keep going. You just keep adding numbers that can be multiplied by those to numbers and when you get to the last one's you see which numbers are there same.
