factor 3m^2+14m-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3m-1)(m+5) i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what i thought. explain how you got it plz.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3m*m=3m^2 -1*5=-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm, ok you need to pick a number that multiply to get the last digit of the polynomial and add or subtract to get the middle digit. So we know that 3*5+(-1)=14 so then it is safe to say that we are going to use -1 and 5 to solve this problem. You can check your answer by foiling the problem back out

right. thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is really a trail and error type problem although there are other ways you can try. After you look at enough of them you will get faster and it will take a lot less time per problem just practice and it will come to you

thanx
