Tell weather the graph opens up or down Identify the vertx tell if the graph is wider or narrower or the same as the graph of Y =|X| f(x)=2| x+2| +8

OpenStudy (nowhereman):

Did you graph it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol no idk how

OpenStudy (nowhereman):

Just calculate some function values at some points x and connect them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still dk how to do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me

OpenStudy (nowhereman):

Oh well. Then you do it the following way: 1. You draw x- and y-axis orthogonal to each other. 2. make ticks for some multiples of a unit at both axis. So for example at -5, -4, -3, ..., 5. Just how much space you think you will need. 3. For each of those x-values, and maybe some in between you calculate f(x) 4. At the point (x, f(x)) in your coordinate system you make a dot / cross 5. You connect the points from left to right.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

try making a table x y -2 ? 0 ? 2 ? the y values you get by putting the x value into the equation 2|x+2| +8 to get more points add more x-values to the table

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the vertex is -2,8

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and does it open up or down and is it narrow or wider?

OpenStudy (nowhereman):

If you can't imagine it, you have to draw it alongside with the function you want to compare it to.

OpenStudy (nowhereman):

Of course there is also software that can do it for you. They are called CAS. You could even use WolframAlpha online.
