OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there any way to join a more specific study group? Or are we all lumped together in here?

OpenStudy (carlsmith):

On the home page, there is a link to 'See All Groups' or something similar, below the main groups tags. That might help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I remember there being more specific groups a few months ago, not sure why they changed.

OpenStudy (carlsmith):

I guess you don't want to have too many groups, else you spread the activity and a lot of them go dry. There are about twenty groups at the moment. I don't know what the demand is, but I'd like to see a group for learning Python.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Because there isn't necessarily a critical mass, as carlsmith said, for specific groups, we've focused on broader groups to make it easier for people to find help right now. As we bring on traffic sources and hear from users about demand for groups, we'll expand our offerings. If we see certain groups get too much volume, we'll see how we can split them to maintain an active community while still making sure everyone gets help in real time. There are two good bets for Python, by the way. The first is the general Computer Science group at http://openstudy.com/groups/computer%20science , and the second is the MIT 6.0 Intro Computer Science group at http://openstudy.com/groups/mit%206.0%20intro%20computer%20science%20(ocw) ; since that class is taught in Python, there are some Python people on there.
