jeff is playing cards with a friend. his opponent just dealt him an almost perfect hand-- all he needs to win is a five. they each have 7 cards. if his opponent doesnt have a five, and jeff has 3 fives, what is the probabilty that the card jeff draws is a five?

OpenStudy (darthsid):

There are 52 cards in a deck. Jeff has 7, and his friend has 7, so there are 38 cards left. Now, there are 4 fives in a deck (one of each suit). Jeff already has 3 fives, and his friend does not have a five. This means that there is 1 five left, and it is in the 38 cards that are left from which they are drawing. Thus, the probability is 1/38.
