5x-1/6 = (1/x)-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5x-1)/6 = (1/x) -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30x^2-x=6-6x 30x^2+5x-6=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um x=-3.167??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get to 30x^2 +5x-6=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

very carefully

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply everything by 6x and move to one side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o but u changed the prblem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um x=-1.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5 +/- (745)^1/2 divided by 60 quadratic forumla.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm idk...

OpenStudy (radar):

5x-1/6=(1/x) 5x-1/x=(1/6)-1 \[(5x ^{2}-1)/x=-5/6\] take the cross product

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.372 is a valid answer. found my calc and ran the first number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-.538 appears to be valid as well. Have engaged in a correct de-doosing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Changed to quadratic by adding one to both sides. Then multiplied both sides by X. Then mulitplied both sides by six. Then created 30x^2+5X-6. Then used quadratic formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rounded decimals to thousandths.
