How do I use the Pythagorean Theorem to find missing measures?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

given any right triangle it will have 3 sides, two being the legs,one being the diagonal or hypotenuse call them a,b,c c=diagonal a^2 +b^2 = c^2 given 2 of the lengths you can solve for the missing one. ex: a=2, c=4 2^2 + b^2 = 4^2 4+b^2 = 16 b^2 = 16-4=12 b=sqrt(12) = 2*sqrt(3)
