(4)/(x+1)+(2x-2)/(x+1).....i know the answer is 2 i just cant seem to figure out the steps for how to get the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these fractions have a common denominator, so add their numerators

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you appear to already have common denominators; so just add the tops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 + 2x - 2 = 2 + 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This factors to be 2(1+x), so you have 2(1+x)/(x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the x+1 will cancel. Leaving you with 2
