what isthe x in x^3-75x-182=0

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

x is the independent variable, its an unknown number or the input into a function

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

oh wait you mean solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sir

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

you have to try to factor out some (x-c) where c is factor of 182 then it will leave a quadratic which is more easily solved. try (x +-1), (x+-2),(x+-7) and see if any of those factor out evenly, if none do then you have to try other numerical methods like newton's method for finding zeroes. Additionally, if you have a graphing calculator or software to graph the function this should give you an idea of where the zeroes are

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

x+7 does work
