Question

can someone explain to me how to write a good essay???
i kept on being told to PEE (which is Point, Evidence, Explain or Elaborate)

There is no formula to writing a good essay, other than to read a lot. :-/ The more you see how people put their ideas to paper, the more you'll know about how to write your own down. And the better you'll be at formulating them. Stand on the shoulders of giants, as they say. Read for fun. :-)

the most important thing about essays is (arguably) your thesis. what kind of essay are you writing? a compare/contrast? a persuasive essay? etc. Before you start, I suggest doing some research on your topic, and then write an outline. let's say you were writing a persuasive essay on why schools shouldn't give homework. your outline might look something like:

I. Introduction (give background information, hook the reader)
THESIS: Although many educators argue otherwise, homework does more harm than good to students because it causes stress, leads to sleep deprivation, and doesn't advance student understanding of a subject.

II. Body paragraph 1: Many educators believe homework is important and helps students.
(in this paragraph, use specific facts to back this up)
end with a concluding sentence that summarize what you've written: Clearly, many adults in the education world hold the importance of homework in high esteem.

III. Body Paragraph 2: Homework causes stress, which can be harmful.
(again, back this up)
Concluding sentence: stress is a common and dangerous side effect of too much homework.

For this essay, I'd suggest writing a paragraph on sleep deprivition and why homework causes is, and how it doesn't advance student understanding. then, end with a concluding paragraph.

Concluding paragraph: restate the thesis.

I also suggest looking up some guides online.

then, fill it in to make a rough draft. give it to someone to read, or leave it for a while before you re-read and re-edit it. MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO GRAMMATICAL ERRORS.

apparently i get low grades for it becuse i dont know how to write proper essays as in nicely planned and stuff :(
