the doubling time of a population is 3 years. How many years will it take for the population to grow by a factor of 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 years.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first 3 years would be a factor of two, the next 3 years would be a factor of 4 and then the 3 years following that would be by a factor of 8. So by the 9th year, it will have grown by a factor of 8.
