whats the perimeter of the rectangle
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes that what i wanted to knw
OpenStudy (anonymous):
dumb cow but he is not telling
OpenStudy (dumbcow):
i guess you could solve it in general terms
2(x+y) = P
A = x*y
maximize A
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes

any one
OpenStudy (dumbcow):
ok start with what i gave you use perimeter equation to get y in terms of x and P
substitute that in for y in Area equation
differentiate and solve for x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok thanks a lot cow
OpenStudy (dumbcow):
kushashwa this can be done without calculus as well
when you have an quadratic equation you find max point by finding line of symmetry x=-b/2a
just in case you were curious
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes thanks
