show the largest possible area of rectangle for a given perimeter is square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u explain it clearly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve this from derivative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually i m in 8th grade so can not solve this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

whats the perimeter of the rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that what i wanted to knw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dumb cow but he is not telling

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

i guess you could solve it in general terms 2(x+y) = P A = x*y maximize A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any one

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok start with what i gave you use perimeter equation to get y in terms of x and P substitute that in for y in Area equation differentiate and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks a lot cow

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

kushashwa this can be done without calculus as well when you have an quadratic equation you find max point by finding line of symmetry x=-b/2a just in case you were curious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i needed that process and thanx for giving me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by the way where r u from
