quadratic equation question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y ^{?}-80=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and I was told the answer should be \[\sqrt{80} \] and\[-\sqrt{80}\] but my online assignment isn't letting me type it in this format. Anyone have any idea what the correction would be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's supposed to be a 2 not a ? after y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly, they're probably not asking for the negative one if it's only one answer. Try putting in 8.944. That's the value of sqrt(80).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's looking for 2 answers actually. and it has to be in radical form

OpenStudy (cherrilyn):

add 80 to the other side to get \[y ^{2}=80\] then get y alone by squarerooting. \[\sqrt{80} can be positive or negative\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd check with your teacher, that answers definitely right.

OpenStudy (cherrilyn):

maybe try putting in + or - sqrt(80) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's 2 different boxes for the answers. hmm. yeah. idk why it's not working but i'll maybe just move on to the next. Thanks
