Twice the sum of a number and negative two is sixteen. Find the number.

4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 4.5+4.5=9, 9+9=18, 18+-2=16 by George I've got it! Thanks

ha no problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let x = the number. 2 (x +(- 2)) = 16 and x=10 2(4.5+(-2))=5 Have I done something wrong here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its the sum of the same number times 2 minus 2 equals 16 2(x+x)-2=16 to find it one does the opposite add 2 divde by 2 and divide again by 2 hence 4.5

I think I will just let it go at that. Have a good day.
