Are you sure you're not mixing up total medals and maths medals. You see a sum total on your profile page.

Actually we noticed a bug on Friday that when your medals are updated in real time (that is to say, without your reloading the page), you often get a total medal count where you usually have your per-group medal count. We're working to fix that :)
