Depends on how good you are.

Anyways, I think it would be a fun idea to build an RPG or strategy game (text-based).
This project would recuire you to put some serious effort, and at the same time would be fun.

Ummm, what do you mean by amateur language?  If a language is Turing Complete then it can do anything another Turing Complete language can do.
