PLEASE HELP ME!!! In a recent election, there were six candidates and 5100 total votes. The circle graph below summarizes the votes by candidate. The central angle for the DeWitt slice is 25.2 degrees . How many of the votes did DeWitt get?
if u click on the link that says mathgraph the graph will get bigger. i know its hard to see right now.
and btw, cental angle = 360 degrees
ratio of 25.2 to 360 is the same as x to 5100
so what do i do?
25.2:360 :: x:5100 or 25.2 x ------- = ------- 360 5100
then cross multiply?
360x=5100 * 25.2
Yes
is the * a multiplication?
yes
so the answer is 128520??
that cant be right bc there were only 5100 total votes
wait... 357??
I got 357
I like your logic when you got the wrong answer, you knew the answer had to be less than 5100. good thinking
that was correct! yay! now i only have 2 more of those kind to do. will u help me with those also?
thanks:) haha
Let's roll
The circle graph below summarizes the 150 members of a university fraternity by their majors. The central angle for the Sociology slice is 79.2 degrees . What percentage of the fraternity members are Sociology majors? Do not round.
This is very similar to the previous problem. Set up the ratio
79.2 x -------- = ------- 360 150
ok..ill try it
33??
33%
Me too
it said that was incorrect.
Yes percent, some teachers are fussy about units lol
it said that was incorrect :(
OH OH
ughhh!
That was an angle of 79.2 degrees or was it 79 degrees and 2 minutes?
79.2 degrees
150 members right
yes
it says the answer is 22%
bc 79.2 ---- = 0.22 360
Yes, that is right we calculated the number of the members 33 which is 22% of 150. Sorry I didn't see that sooner.
that's okay
As part of a survey, 1500 people were asked to name their favorite sport to watch. The table below summarizes their answers. This information is also presented as a circle graph. Find the central angle measure, x degrees , for the Basketball slice in the circle graph. Do not round. i will put the circle graph up now.
I have read the question closely and I know what we are looking for this time
sorry i made that on paint haha
Where is the table?
click on graph
oh h/o i will put the table up
can u see it?
Yes. it looks like basket ball is 13%, I want to add them all up to see if I am missing something, they should add up to 100.......they do.
it is looking for x
Since the central angle is 360 degrees, then 13% would be represented by 13% of 360 degrees. Does that sound logical?
so to find x i would 13/360??
If that is the case, then 360 * .13 = 46.8 degrees
No you would look at it like if it was like 50% then it would be 1/2 or 180 degrees. It is a fractional multiplying thing. you are multiplying 13% which is 13/100 or .13 get it?
yes i do thank u. now will u help me with 2 more of these same type of questions? to make sure i can do it?
I will until I have to leave, my wife wants to deliver some invitational cards for my mother's birthday. So go ahead.
Last week, there were 450 student absences at Jefferson High. The table below summarizes them by the day of the week on which they occured. This information is also presented as a circle graph. Find the central angle measure, x degrees , for the Thursday slice in the circle graph. Do not round.
Hey that is pretty much like the last one. Should be a piece of cake Ha
Again we are looking for degrees.
What do you think we should do first?
set up a ratio?
Yes, the ration needs to show the ratio of thurs absentees to the total absentees
i'm not sure how that would be displayed :/
That ratio will be equal to the x angle/360 degrees
Add the total absentees, I get 350 what do you get?
i got 450
You're right 99 x ----- = ------- 450 360
ohh okkkkk =)
79.2?
I got 79.2 degrees
me tooo!
Sorry but I got to run.
that's okay thank u so much :)
Good luck.
thanks!
