how does resonance work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

la résonance fonctionne avec l'intensité maximal et l’impédance est égale à la résistance

think or energy as + and -... i know that energy doesnt have a sign. but when a wave is at its maximum, its + or - when a wave, is at its maxima (call it +) and you add another + wave to it, it becomes more +, thus more energy. everything has a natural frequency which they vibrate at, and if you have another wave, vibrating witht eh same frequency, the + s will add up to a large amount of energy.

While not an entirely rigorous definition, resonance is an amplification phenomenon that results when an external force oscillates at the same frequency as the system itself. Think of pushing a child on a swing. The child oscillates back and forth at a given frequency; when the parent's external shoves coincide exactly with this natural frequency, the amplitude of the child's swings becomes larger and larger. However, if the parent's external forcing is at a frequency that is not in accordance with the child's natural frequency, the swinging can become quite chaotic! The amplitude of the swinging will vary greatly! I hope that solidifies your understanding!
