factor x^4-256

OpenStudy (anonymous):

note that 256 = 4^4 and x^4 = (x^2)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm ok and so if i do (x^2)^2- 4^4 i should be able to work out the answer. it saya factor completly idk if that changes anything.

myininaya (myininaya):

(x^2-16)(x^2+16) you can factor more

myininaya (myininaya):

(x-4)(x+4)(x-4i)(x+4i) where i=sqrt(-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i had tried that one and said i was wrong, could i try (x+4)(x-4)(x^2+16) ?

myininaya (myininaya):

use the one i typed in if you have talked about imaginary numbers use the one you just typed in if you haven't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok cool , thank you so much!
