-4(square root)256

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually the answer is 64 or -64 since there are 2 square roots of 256 i.e +16 and -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or does he want the square root of -4? which is undefined unless you want complex numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you only break down the square root once?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure what you mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well -4 is on the outside of the square root so im sure it cant be used like that....but once you get 16 from the square root you dont break it down again right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No you don't. technically the square root of a number has a plus and minus component
