Writing simple games like

Paper, Scissors, Stone
Hangman
Pontoon

and stuff like that are ok little problems to begin with. You can easily imagine how you might make a super charged version, with some interesting twist and some extra features. Maybe just house-rules. Perhaps borrow some ideas from other card and board games

Top Trumps
Monopoly
Cluedo

Games are always a good place to start.
