12/4 = 3 c^3 stays on top, there is no c's on the bottom to cancel with a stays on the bottom, there are no a's on the top to cancel with b's - since they are on the top and the bottom you subtract exponents. b^(2 - -2) b^4 so 3b^4c^3 ------- a
