In a recent year, there were 46,000 deaths from motor vehicle accidents in the U.S. If the population was approximately 226.5 million, what was the death rate per 100,000 population due to motor vehicle accidents?

I set up a proportion: (46,000/226,500,000) = (x/100,000) Cross multiply and you get (226,500,000)x = 4,600,000,000 Divide by 226,500,000 and you get 20.31.
