(4x²-3x+7)-(-3x²+4x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

teacher is telling me im wrong please someone show me where here is what I got using the column method add equations together 4x²-3x+7 3x²+4x-6 _________ 7x²-x+13 ending result cf of 1st & last term 7x²=(7x)(x) 13=(-1)(-13) 7(x-1)(x-13)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your mistake is that you added them, where you should subtract.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should multiply each term of the second parenthesis by -1 before you add the like terms to the the first parenthesis .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after multiplying by -1 and adding them together i got 7x^2-7x+13 which is the same answer I had to start with the teacher said was wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look carefully!! It's not the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur right I forgot about the -7x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then this is the answer 7x^2-7x+13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do we factor it down any further

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, that's all. It can't be factored.
