please help: An Airplane flies 460 miles with the wind and 310 against the wind in the same length of time. if the speed of the wind is 30, what is the speed of the airplane in still air? Recall s=rt any help is appreciated :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets say the speed of the airplane is r miles an hour when there is no wind. what can you tell me about its speed when it is flying along with the wind?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r+30?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. and what can you tell me about its speed against the wind?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r-150?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why r-150?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did 460-310?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a headwind will slow you down by the speed of the wind, so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r-30?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks what would i do knowing that information?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. so now you know that the speed while going with the wind is r+30. it goes 460 miles in a certain amount of time. since distance traveled = speed * time, 460 miles = (r+30) * time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need feedback from you , andy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sorry i went somewhere, are u still there?
