9. A computer company gives a discount of 10 % on a new piece of software. If it makes a profit of 7%, what percent does the marked price exceed the cost price?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets simplify life and say MP = 100 aftr 10% discount selling price is 100-10 = 90 where there is 7% profit. Now lets say if cost price is x the 1.7x= 90 or x = 52.94 so the %difference between marked price and cost price is: (100-52.94)/ = 47.06%

thank you!

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

this is wrong 1.7 represents 70% increase 1.07x=90 x = 84.11
